Mt. St. Helens by K. and A.
My name is Daniella and this was my trip to Mount Saint Helens. I was ten years old and my Dad was a scientist. My mom passed away when I was seven, and we were visiting her grave by Mount Saint Helens. It was a perfect day to take pictures and my Dad went on top to take some. I was sitting on a rock near my Mom's grave singing Happy Birthday to her. She just turned 38. Suddenly I heard this loud awful noise. The ground began to shake violently. My heart started pounding, I wondered where my Dad was. The ground started to shake even more and I tripped on a rock. My hand fell on a sharp piece of wood and it started to gush out blood. I saw my Dad only a few feet away laying peacefully like he couldn't feel anything. I saw a rescue helicopter and I waved my hands wildly. It came down to pick us up. They bandaged up my hand and headed home. Me and my Dad survived, but it was a very scary experience.

This is an actual photograph from the old West. However historical fiction writers often use photographs and paintings as inspiration for their characters. Some of their characters are based on famous people and some are made up characters.
For this writing assignment that will later be typed into the comment section of this blog, write one or two paragraphs of dialogue that is being spoken between the two girls in this school scene from the old West from the early 1800s.
